About

The Walsh County Commissioners, Sheriff's Office, and project planning committee have been working diligently to determine the best, most fiscally sound, option for addressing concerns with the current jail and HVAC issues at the Courthouse. We are pleased to present a proposed plan that will save taxpayer dollars and provide a safer environment for the public, staff, and inmates. Great measures have been taken to ensure the new facility will feature a conservative design and the new construction is done right, while keeping future growth and needs in mind.

Walsh County is moving forward with a referendum to fund the design and construction of a new County Jail and Sheriff's Office. Walsh County Vote is a communications plan designed to educate and inform residents on the proposed project and why it's needed, share information on the upcoming referendum, and encourage voter participation in a special election on May 13, 2025.

We encourage you to explore this website, follow the Walsh County Vote Facebook page, attend a community information meeting, and take a jail tour to stay informed. If you are unfamiliar with jail operations, we recommend watching this informative video produced by the National Institute of Corrections in the 1990s, which remains highly relevant today. For any questions, please reach out to us through this website or contact the Commissioners or Sheriff Jurgens directly.
