The Solution
A New and Safer Facility
New and Safer Facility
The new 37,685 square-foot County Jail and Sheriff's Office is designed to improve security and efficiency. It will have 46 beds, including 22 double-bunk cells for the general population and 2 single-bunk cells for mental health needs. The facility includes a designated work release program area, separate from general housing. Inside the housing pod, a central control station offers direct sightlines, allowing officers to monitor all dayrooms from one central location, enhancing overall security and supervision.
The administrative and operational functions of the facility are integrated within the new building with the existing courthouse mostly retaining the same functions. A secure corridor connects the jail directly to the courthouse, allowing for efficient inmate transportation via an elevator to the courtroom. Designed with future growth in mind, the facility has been laid out for potential expansion of administration spaces and housing populations.
Paying tribute to the historic courthouse, the new building incorporates limestone details in its façade, creating a harmonious connection between the new structure and the existing Art Deco architecture. This thoughtful design ensures the new facility not only meets modern operational requirements but also respects the legacy and aesthetic of the courthouse, seamlessly.
Enhanced Safety Features
The facility’s modern design and advanced surveillance technology will significantly improve safety by enabling more effective supervision, eliminating the need to move inmates through public areas, and reducing inmate transfers to other county facilities.
Project Investment: The total project cost is $42,675,140.
Community Impact
The new facility will increase inmate capacity, reduce transfer costs, improve rehabilitation opportunities, strengthen safety measures, and optimize overall operations.
